New Mission Atlantis posters

Sam recently posted about the new poster that the Survival info page houses, but along with that, there are two new posters for Mission Atlantis on that island’s info page as well! Check them out below. :D

Also, I made a new Poptropica-based wallpaper, showing washed up villains after we take their evil. I’ve recorded the making of the poster, and you can check it out along with other speed art here. :)

Deleted ad rares

Recently, something happened that was feared for quite a long time — rares from old ads were deleted. Among the deleted items are the Barbie hair, the lion mask, the popcorn suit, the penguin hat, and the Flint Lockwood hair. For some, those were key parts of their costumes, and they’ve been around so long that it’s sad to see them go. The Barbie hair was the most influential, and it was quite a glitch classic. Will we ever see these items again?

Advertisement updates: CapriSun & HTTYD 2

A new advertisement has popped up recently, being for the CapriSun Roarin’ Waters campaign, that I found on Early Poptropica.  When you go inside, you can play either of the two games: Save the Swimmer or Save the Sunbather. For the first, you have to surf out into the ocean to save a swimmer from an octopus, and in the latter, you have to make your way through an obstacle course to save a sunbather from… sun burn. Hmm, which premise sounds more dangerous?

There are a couple of things that are worth mentioning about the ad, not counting the stupid cards that you get for completing the quests, first being the host of the interior ad — if you’re a boy, the host has somewhat straight hair, while if you’re a girl, the host has curly hair and sunglasses. I find that a bit strange, so tell me what you think in the comments!

To finish the first quest concerning the swimmer, click to jump on your surf board, and avoid mean fishies/rocks while boosting your height by touching flying fruit baskets in the grasp of seagull’s claws. (Quite a mouthful, I might add. :P )

The cool part is that while you’re playing the game, you have a shell in your hand that you blow on to calm the octopus. To keep the shell after you play the game, press ctrl+shift+s to change your skin color and keep the item! Same goes with the second game, where you’ll get a bottle of sunblock. When you press the space bar with the shell equipped, you perform a musical motion, while the sunblock is just presented with pride.

Another ad showcases the upcoming movie How To Train Your Dragon 2, where if you watch a (way too long) trailer for the movie, you get a neat “Toothless Dragon Fire” power. When equipped, it gives you a strange looking smile, and when you press spacebar, fire bellows out from within. If you’re close to someone, it will give them a burnt look — priceless! Although when you think about it, sort of painful.

Tip: Save the mouth to your closet, and after the ad is removed, you will still be able to use the power!

Upcoming island updates

First of all, the fourth episode of Survival’s name has been uncovered: Cabin Fever (unrelated to the Wimpy Kid book. :P ). This episode looks like the best one so far, and I’ll be revealing the awesomeness in upcoming Survival Files. ;) In the meantime, check out this awesome scene:

Changes to the map

With the release of Survival 2, many things are revealed about how they’re going to do things with episodes — but first of all, I want to express my feelings about something… ARRGGG!!! What have they done to the first page of the map?! Obviously, they took the two SUIs from it and moved them to the last page, but why?! It just feels so wrong! And the last page is so squished together now… I’m a long time Poptropica player, and when you start to change the layout in drastic ways like this, I don’t take to the updates very kindly.

I know, it seems sort of ironic since larger updates have been made, e.g. the new map, the Friends feature, etc. But don’t do small things that mess up my orientation! It may seem like a small change, but I’m not happy. :P The one thing that I am happy about would be the way that they’re going to be presenting episodes: there are pop up screens that let you choose between episodes — genius!

Hey Poptropicans, there’s a new ad building around Poptropica for the upcoming Dreamworks animated movie How to Train Your Dragon 2, coming in 3D starting June 13! I found this on Main Street of Mythology, and it’s a common room too, so you can chat and battle with other players!

As you can gather from the collage, there’s quite a bit to explore – on the left, you can watch a trailer, read the movie’s synopsis, customize from two dummies with cool berserker costumes, and claim two power cards: Dragon Ride (which places your Poptropican on Toothless the dragon) and Hiccup Flight (which shows Hiccup zooming around on a dragon).

On the right, you get to click on two different games to play, both of which will lead you to a new tab – How to Fly Your Dragon and The Dragon Trainer Matching Challenge. You can also click on a catapult with a sheep on it to fling it and conjure up some dragons.

(UPDATE!) There’s also a video ad in between places (such as underwater on Mission Atlantis) for Dragons: Defenders of Berk (Part 2), now on DVD. (This is a series related to the How to Train Your Dragon films.) Watch the video, and you’ll be awarded Hiccup’s Shield, which “protects you from fire” (see images below) when you press the spacebar. Basically, it summons some glowing blue light which swirls around your shield for a moment. /end update

On a different note, a Poptropican named Zippy Berry was featured today on the Creators’ Blog because she “made it through to tomorrow’s semifinals in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.” I don’t know who she is, but she must have some special connection to at least one of the Creators to get such a mention on the official blog! Well, whoever you are, Zippy Berry, congratulations. :)

Hey Poptropicans! If you like the Dork Diaries series by Rachel Renee Russell, check out the new ad for book 7 (Tales From a Not-So-Glam TV Star) on Main Street of Poptropolis Games. :D

Inside, you can add Nikki Maxwell as your friend (her username is npc:nikkimaxwell), as well as Costumize her or chat with her (she’ll then advertise the Fab TV Star costume you can pick up on the top floor). You can also click to read an excerpt from the book, play a quiz game, watch a video, Costumize two other girls, and find allusions to “Nikki” kissing “Brandon” (er… awkward).

UPDATE: As Super Nicey noted in the comments, the Fab TV Star costume is not only different between genders, but both versions contain a handheld item from Back Lot Island that was originally for members only! For girls, it’s the Clapboard, and for boys, it’s the Movie Camera from the bonus quest.

UPDATE #2: The NPC (non-player character) for Nikki Maxwell can also be found in common rooms such as the Soda Pop Shop on Early Poptropica! (Thanks to KeithSammut for the picture.)

Forgotten Toys 2.0

Remember my last post about forgotten toys? Well, it seems that I’m nearly halfway sure that I’ve uncovered another forgotten toy. I found this photo of Jeff Kinney holding the Poptropica Blimp from an old Creator’s Blog post, and I dis-regarded it until I looked back over it.

In the background you can see a Shark Boy poster on the wall, but there’s also a strange blue object sitting on the window sill next to it. You can’t hardly even tell what it is because it’s being hidden by another poster. At first glance it just looks like a flower pot — until you take into consideration how uncanny the color of the object is to Poptropica’s main color, blue.

At this point, I was pretty intrigued — and the more I looked, the more it looked like a Poptropican. Check out the two white circles that are cut off at the very bottom of the object. I also ruled out the background object, because the change in coloring doesn’t match up.

The problem is, I couldn’t recognize this character from anywhere in Poptropica. If anyone finds this character, please — tell us in the comments! We’d love to know who this forgotten toy is. :D

UPDATE: The closest match found thus far came from a comment from Mαgı¢ Fıяe ♪, who noticed that it looks a lot like the Poptropica Cool Kid Plush Toy. However, the eyes are different – the top half of the Cool Kid plush’s eyes are skin-colored, while on the mystery toy, they are white.

Costly walkthroughs

First alerted by PHB reader Trusty Tooth, the official Poptropica Tips and Tricks app now requires money to buy guides for recent islands. Three new guides were recently added — Monster Carnival, Mission Atlantis, and Survival Island – and unlike their predecessors, these each cost US$0.99.

I find this pretty outrageous when you can go online and find perfectly good and perhaps even better guides for these islands for free. The PHB houses the complete collection of island guides, every single one entirely free — and possibly even better than the app itself. Part of that is because the guides on the app aren’t as thorough as you would expect — believe me, I tried one. So please, don’t waste your money on something that can be gotten for free. Use a free online source. :)

By the way, when the official Tips & Tricks app was first released, their walkthroughs used to be US$0.99 each as well – but some time later, they made everything free. It seems strange that they’re going to start charging again, especially when, as noted above, you can get a service like this for free!

Loads of Advertisements

There’s been a couple of new advertisements pop up recently, the first being for the Lego Movie on DVD. Upon logging in, you will receive two new cards: a Batman Thought Bubble and a “Everything is Awesome” card.

When the Batman Thought Bubble is used, pressing space bar will make a thought bubble appear above your head, and a sound clip will play shouting “I’m Batman”. The “Everything is Awesome” card plays a short sound clip shouting “Everything is Awesome”. Pretty straightforward.

You can actually do some pretty annoying things to people with the cards in common rooms. It turns out that when you use either card in a common room, it plays on everyone’s screen! It will also take anyone in their inventory out of their inventory. Mwahahahaha. >:)

The second ad is a bill board for the new Disney Channel movie “Zapped” and the new Disney Channel show “Girl Meets World”. After watching the short video, you will be awarded a Zapped hat/GMW hat! The hats are cool, but couldn’t they have used a better quality image for the logos? :P

There’s also an ad in the space between places (such as on Early Poptropica) with a big summer-themed bulletin board for a reading wish list from Penguin Young Readers. You can click on the red button to get the printable wish list added to your inventory.

Hey Poptropicans! Are you ready to get sucked into a swirling colorful portal, search for dwarves, and color the world around you? All that and more awaits within the Disney XD: Animacation ad building (which is also a common room) – but this ad, it seems, is only available for younger players (to see if you’re eligible, check the dropdown menu in your inventory and see whether there’s one for “XD Animacation”, which should be in green). (Update: Poptropica has confirmed it’s only for ages 6-11.)

Anyway, after resigning myself to making a new account just for this purpose, I found the ad on Main Street of Cryptids and Monster Carnival. Upon entering, you’ll get to watch yourself transported in a swirl of cartoon characters… and inside, you’ll get to play 3 games and win some cool prizes!

To the left, you’ll find Mabel’s Water Race. All you have to do is pick a character, then keep your mouse aimed at the center of your character’s the dartboard while the character you picked races some other creatures at the top of the screen. If you win, you’ll get the Animacation Power, which colors other characters in your area either purple, blue, or yellow!

On your right is the Fun House: here, you’ll have a time limit to jump, run, and bounce your way through fun house mirrors, falling watermelons, moving snake platforms, and more. If you make it, you’ll win the Steve the Llama Follower – and he’s half a head taller than your Poptropican!

Back in the Animacation common room, if you jump up to the “XD” sign, you’ll be able to reach the 7D Mines. Your task here is simply to get through the mines and click on all the dwarves along the way (check the bottom of your screen to see what they look like). Pretty easy to spot – although Bashful was bashfully hiding behind a rock. When you catch ‘em all, you’ll win a Dwarf Costume, which actually comes in 3 variations, and they all have awesome hats!

If you win all three games, you’ll be awarded the Ultimate Prize: a Steve the Llama Bling Necklace! When you use this, your game screen will sparkle and be tinted yellow/blue/purple for a moment, then a black wave will wash over the screen and replace it with another one of those three colors, and then again until it’s back to normal. It’s all rather surreal.

Hope you made it through that bizarre world with your vision intact, and enjoy your prizes! :D

Helloooo Poptropicans! There’s a new ad on Main Street of Early Poptropica Island for the upcoming sequel to Disney’s Planes (which of course is a spin-off of Cars); this new movie being Planes: Fire & Rescue, in theaters July 18, 2014. (thanks to CartoonSage for the tip!) Inside the ad, there are two games you can play, each awarding two prizes. Let’s fly in, shall we? :)

In the first game, Forest Stream Dippers, you have two minutes to put out 6 fires by clicking and holding above them with your plane (you can choose to be either Dusty or Dipper). However, first you’ll need to fill up your water supply by sitting on the river! It takes about 20 seconds to fill it all the way up, which, I should warn you, is valuable time gone in this game. Also, when you’re moving, don’t click and hold – just hovering your cursor is enough – otherwise you’ll waste precious water. For shame.

Anyway, if you’re successful in this Blimp Adventure-like adventure (unlike me, who had to retry this game quite a few times until I made it under the time limit) – you’ll win a Dusty Follower (the plane, not, you know, actual dust) and a Fire Stopper Power (which rains specks of orangey-red halfway down your screen).

In the second game, Cliffside Wildfires (is the Wildfire tribe causing trouble now? tsk tsk), you can choose to pilot Dusty, Dipper, Windlifter, or Blade. After dousing each fire (which gets progressively further and further to the right), you have to return to the base all the way on the left to recharge your ‘flame retardant’ before setting out again to put out the next fire.

If you win, you’ll be given a Dusty Cap (which, again, is not made of dust, but rather, features Dusty the plane) and a Hero Badge (which you can wear, plus press space bar to activate a sequence of planes zooming around the screen). Splendidly mediocre. I do have to say the Animacation ad offers better prizes, for those able to access it! :P

Also, Poptropicans who log in may find two new ad items added to their inventories – girls will get an Alex Bailey costume, while boys get a Conner Bailey costume, and everyone gets a Fairy Kingdom follower. These items are for Chris Colfer’s The Land of Stories books. Upon using your two items, however, you’ll have a big advertising thought bubble over you, which kind of ruins it a bit.

Anyway, that’s it for these couple of ads! Enjoy the games and prizes! :D

Hey guys, Fuzzy-B here! I have found a new glitch that allows you to fly on any SUI (sound-updated island)! You should probably enjoy this as soon as you can, as it will most likely get fixed fairly soon. Now that we have the formalities out of the way, let’s get into how to fly on any SUI!

WHAT YOU NEED: First, you need to get the Conner Bailey (boys) or Alex Bailey (girls) advertisement card and customize the sword (or wand, for girls). When I logged in it was given to me automatically, so it should be in your inventory automatically when you log in.

HOW TO FLY: The next part is fairly simple and it’s how you fly. Point your arrow in the direction you want to go, then jump and rapidly pump the space bar. You are now flying across the screen as if you are on Super Power Island!

What do you think of being able to fly on any SUI? Pretty awesome, right? Be sure to check out the PHB’s cheats page for more cool glitches, and let me know what you think in the comments!

Hey Poptropicans – Galactic Hot Dogs is back on Poptropica with some new goodies! This time I found it on Main Street of Super Power Island. Last time the GHD stand was around, it brought along the Ice Blaster Pistol, and the time before that, the Princess Dagger (girls) and Cosmoe (boys) costumes. Those prizes are now back, along with two new ones: Jack and Princess Follower!

When you click on the GHD stand to receive your prizes, you’ll also be brought to the GHD site on Funbrain where you can read the graphic novels for free! By the way, Galactic Hot Dogs uses the font “Luckiest Guy”, which PHB author HP once recommended as a free alternative to Poptropica’s title font, Ghostkid AOE. Cool, eh? :D

Also, here’s a look at part of the prize pack in action: the Princess Follower is as tall as your Poptropican, Jack transforms your head and body into a robot (you can use the Costumizer tool to remove it), and the Ice Blaster Pistol freezes innocent bystanders into a block of ice for a moment.

Update by Samwow5: Hey everyone! There is a new feature for Poptropica’s costume closet! It’s only accessible on SUIs: you customize a Main Street character and the Costumizer screen pops up.

By clicking the green button with a clothes hanger and a plus, it adds the costume immediately to your closet. When you click the blue button with a hanger, it opens up your closet and lets you scroll through and delete costumes you don’t want.

Hey Poptropicans! Quick post to alert you that there’s a new video ad on Main Streets (I found it on Super Power). After playing the trailer for the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, you’ll receive the Pizza Time Power! Using it gives other Poptropicans in the area a random-colored mask (orange, purple, red or blue) and pizza slice handheld, but unfortunately, they can’t be Costumized.

The PHB team has been challenged by Fierce Moon of Poptropica Secrets to take on the #IceBucketChallenge, and… challenge accepted! The cold doesn’t bother us anyway. ;)

If you haven’t already seen, a few of Poptropica’s most iconic characters have taken on this challenge as well, which aims to raise awareness and donations for the ALS Association, whose goal is to fight a disease known as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) which deteriorates muscle control. I made a little donation in the PHB’s name, and if you can, I encourage you to help a good cause as well. :)

As for nominees: we invite any Poptropican who wants to embrace the ice, to do so — whether in real life or with a Poptropica picture! When you do, feel free to post it on your blog or just upload it somewhere, then share it with us in the comments!

There’s a new ad on SUIs (sound-updated islands) such as Mythology, and it’s a street stand that will lead you to a CapriSun Roarin’ Waters website where you can enter daily for a chance to take on the pros from Major League Soccer. More importantly, though, it gives you the new High Kicker power, which is activated when you click “use” and press space bar.

Strangely, this doesn’t work on non-SUIs, and it also may remove your handheld item if you’re holding one. Anyway, enjoy the special move! Keep on poppin’ on, Poptropicans. :D

Advertisement update

Some new ads are finally here, the first promoting the new movie “The BoxTrolls” (which btw looks incredible :P ). You’ll need to watch a lengthy trailer for the film in order to get a cool new “Eggs costume“.

In other news, you’ll get a card upon signing in entitled “ALS Ice Bucket Challenge“. When used, a bucket of ice will be poured onto your Poptropican’s head. As of late, the Creators seem to be pretty involved with this project, having many of their characters take on the challenge and hints of the game’s founder, Jeff Kinney, taking it on as well. Of course that remains to be seen, but the card is still pretty cool. :P

And have you seen my rendition of the challenge? :D

New map features

If you’ve checked the map recently, you’ll know that the PoptropiCon island microcosm has been added (of course it will be released on Thursday), alongside a Land icon that takes you to the feature (and no, the upcoming update has not been added yet). They added yet another map page to hold these two, with only 6 islands being displayed. A load was obviously taken off of the previous page, but now that page is just proportionally off and only holds 5.

Revisiting the case of the missing shark

If you’ve been following the PHB for a while, then you’ll know about the Shark Boy mystery that has never really been answered. However, if you think about it, you’ll start to find some similarities between it and other mysteries of Poptropica.

Monster Carnival island was an old island (a classic) that was never released and was mysteriously taken off the map. For 6 years the mystery was left alone, the Creators hinting at it here and there. One time was different, however – they actually acknowledged that it was gone. (If you don’t know already, it was finally released about 8 months ago)

Not since the introduction of the Costumizer or the removal of the Monster Carnival map icon have we made an update this momentous.

If you compare that to what happened to Shark Boy, it’s pretty similar – even about the Creators acknowledging the disappearance -

The second Island we ever released, way back in 2007, was Shark Tooth Island, which featured the massive Booga Shark, a helpful medicine man, and one very special boy whose name we no longer recall.

So what does this mean? Is Shark Boy going to make a miraculous return? Will we ever find out why he mysteriously vanished? And could this all this be a publicity stunt for something bigger – a new island with Shark Boy as the villain (hey, no one said he was a good guy :P )? Tell me what you think in the comments. :D

Hey Poptropicans! Survival Ep. 5 released to members this past Thursday (and to the disappointment and outrage of non-members everywhere, PoptropiCon Ep. 1 has not come out for all) — but epic as MVB’s defeat may be, interesting developments in Poptropica don’t stop there! Read on for more! :D

Home: medallion & sneak peeks

Some Poptropicans have noticed that, in their medallion collections, a new blank medallion has been inserted between those of Survival: Episode 1 and Mythology. If you hover over it, it says “Home not yet completed.” But what exactly is ‘Home‘?

Well, a few recent Daily Pop sneak peeks might give us a hint — and from the looks of it, it’s a “hub” area that involves character customization!

Over on Poptrickia, Nice Hawk has uncovered that this “Home” world will be for Poptropica’s mobile app (currently available on iOS), and you can see the design still follows the “sky island” theme of the app’s “tutorial” island. Here are some sneak peeks, courtesy of Poptrickia:

In the first scene with the blimp, the blue box is for the logo of the island you last traveled to, and from here, you can enter the two customization buildings: the Bundles Shop and New You.

The Bundles Shop sells gold card costumes and items from the Store, but whether this will cost real money on the app remains to be seen. New You contains a barbershop with a Colorizer, where presumably you can change your hairstyle and colors. There are also three pedestals — perhaps a costume closet of sorts? We’ll have to wait and see!

Cosmoe on Main Street

Remember Cosmoe from the Funbrain graphic novel Galactic Hot Dogs? (By the way, GHD is publishing its first book in May 2015!) Anyway, Cosmoe has appeared a few times on Poptropica before, but now he’s here on Main Streets of islands like Mythology! If you click on him, you can chat with, Costumize (works for boys only), or friend him. (The Princess Dagger prize pack has also returned in places like 24 Carrot!)

If you chat, you can ask him a few pre-scripted questions: who are you? (Cosmoe) what’s in your hand? (my Goober Sword) and why are you standing here? (I’m waiting for Princess Dagger)

Earlier, we found that Cosmoe’s username was npc:cosmoe, but this doesn’t seem to be the case anymore. If you add npc:cosmoe now, you’ll find a random character wearing a birthday cake (was the account hijacked? however, it still shows as Cosmoe on the Avatar Studio).

Poptropica vs. Thinknoodles

Recently, Poptropica has decided to create their own video walkthroughs narrated by Captain Crawfish — but what’s interesting is that, despite advertising on the Creators’ Blog and even the Poptropica homepage itself, the “official” walkthroughs are still not as popular as those of Poptropica player Thinknoodles, who also narrates his guides, but has videos for every island on his YouTube channel. Check out the view counts of both their PoptropiCon Ep. 1 walkthroughs — the numbers don’t lie!

The Creators only have video guides for PoptropiCon Ep. 1 and Survival Ep. 5 so far, and for both, it looks like Think is still in the lead, despite both being released on the same day! Noodle on, I say! :P (Also, doesn’t anyone else wonder why Crawfishy doesn’t use his own peg-legged avatar in his videos?)

By the way, we here at the PHB have some video walkthroughs too, which you can check out on our Poptropica Help Videos channel or HPuterpop’s channel. :)

You may remember when the PHB posted some highlights from Nate Greenwall’s Poptropica portfolio earlier, but over on his Facebook profile (that is his personal account, so be respectful if you choose to contact him!) are a few interesting glimpses into life at Poptropica HQ! (Click to enlarge pics.)

Isn’t that little doodle of Binary Bard cute? And that’s a lot of Poptropica toys – I don’t think some of it has even been released before, like those badges in the corner or the big print of the pink rocker girl! :o

On a similar note, some other Poptropica Creators are on Facebook too: to name a few, Justin Lacy has Hazmat Hermit as his profile picture (and complains of having his corner of Poptropica’s office replaced with plush toys), and Jon Pitcher‘s icon is, of course, the “Jon” pitcher from Survival Ep. 4. Clever. ;)

What’s popping, Poptropicans? Blake here — what? Okay, so the title IS a bit lazily written, but so is the novel based on Disney’s Maleficent. Don’t judge.

Anyway, a new ad has exploded onto Main Streets near you to advertise the new LAIKA and Focus Films movie, “The Boxtrolls“! When you arrive on Main Street (I went on Mythology Island), you’ll be greeted by Eggs (who names a kid Eggs? I DO, THAT’S WHO!) and his stylishly-clothed Boxtroll companions, in front of what I suppose is a Boxtroll hole.

Now, you remember that tightrope portion of that old Open Season 3 ad from a few years back? If you do, the inside of this ad building is going to remind both you and me of that same ad. The game is called Balance the Boxtrolls.

To play, just point your mouse left or right to balance the Boxtrolls, and assist Eggs and the Boxtrolls in changing a lightbulb. (hey, hey guys — how many Boxtrolls does it take to change a lightbulb? FIVE, THAT’S WHAT IT SHOWS IN THE SCREENSHOT! HAHAHA *ok, I laugh way too hard at my own jokes…*)

If you win, you’ll be greeted by a little cutscene of the Boxtrolls changing the light themselves (why did we even bother helping), and you’ll get two prizes, the Boxtroll Buddy and Boxtroll Transformer! Before you ask about the name of the latter – no, this is not Hasbro/Michael Bay CCH CHH CHH CHH Transformers; this is something that turns other Poptropicans into Boxtrolls. This is me showing off the prizes in all their.. um… oil and shoe-iness?

Thoughts on Arabian Nights description

We already knew about Arabian Nights of course, but the recent announcement reveals some epic wallpapers and descriptions. As I was reading, however, I found something that sort of peeved me.

In Arabian Nights, players will travel across the desert trying to rescue the Sultan’s lamp from the 40 Thieves. Prepare for an adventure full of magic, treachery, and danger, in a setting like none we’ve ever created!

I’ve made my standing on this topic known, but in-fact there has been an Arabian setting created in Poptropica before. One of the many ports that Skullduggery island has is called Golden Harbor. It has an Arabian theme, thus they have created a similar setting before. Just wanted to point this out. :P

Drawing Poptropicans with Jon Pitcher

The Creators recently posted a video on their YouTube channel featuring Poptropica illustrator Jon Pitcher. In the video, he shows you how he draws Poptropican heads, and how you can make your own. While the camera is a little shaky, I still think that the Poptropicans he drew were awesome. :D

I might just make a video tutorial for drawing my Poptropican style sometime in the near future too. If you liked the video, you might also want to check out the PHB’s How to draw a Poptropican guide. :)

Jeff Heim’s account

I recently asked Poptropica’s sound producer Jeff Heim to make a Poptropica account, to which he responded that he already had one – his username is jeffheim88, and his Poptropican’s name is Lazy Cactus! While he hasn’t completed any islands, he does have membership and apparently believes in Bigfoot. :P He lives in New Hampshire, US, and is a member of the Black Flags tribe.

If you check out his site, you’ll also find a video (using all Poptropica music) where he explains what he does – note the smile when he mentions Poptropica. ;)

 7th birthday/Halloween costumes

You may know about the new 7th birthday balloon that you can get free in the Store, but they also released two new Halloween-themed costume cards – the Egyptian Mummy and the Scarecrow. These both can be found in the Haunted House mini-quest, and are fully costumizable there. It’s quite a mystery why they’re here – for one thing, they should be in the costumes section. Also, does this relate to Poptropica’s birthday? Only time will tell, I guess. :P

Hey Poptropicans! This past weekend, we celebrated Poptropica’s (and Samwow5’s) birthday on the PHC, and the recap post is now up! But a few other things have happened too – so read on for more.

Mission Atlantis: Ep. 3 costs $0.99 on the iOS app

The final episode of the Mission Atlantis trilogy (Ep. 3: Out of the Blue) is now available on Poptropica’s iOS app – but it comes as an in-app purchase costing US$0.99, which is new for this app!

Asked why they put a price on the episode, Poptropica tweeted that it was to pay for all the work and resources that go into keeping the game running. Fair enough – just remember you can still play it for free online! If you need a walkthrough, check out our Mission Atlantis Island Guide. :)

Galactic Hot Dogs mega-dog game on iOS app

Also on Poptropica’s iOS app is an ad game for Galactic Hot Dogs, which you can find on the map. (It’s been around before, and now it’s back.) To win, just keep running right, jumping over obstacles or blasting objects on the ground (you’ll shoot automatically). Don’t let the robots catch up to you!

When you reach the end, you’ll find that Princess Dagger stole the mega-dog, but she’ll give it back and you’ll get a Jack Transform and Neon Wiener Follower for your app character. Cool! :P

More on Jeff Heim

Recently, PHB reader Captain Spencer sent a little fan email to Jeff Heim (known for making much of Poptropica’s music) and even got a reply (pictured below)! From this, we now know why his Poptropica username is jeffheim88 – it’s his birth year, which means right now he’s around 26! (Btw: if you want to contact him over Gmail, that’s his email name too; just don’t spam him too badly with your love! :P )

Also, we’ve found that he’s not allowed to share what islands will be made into SUIs (sound-updated) next, but we do know that it’ll happen, as the track for Back Lot Island is in the first music album.

And a big thanks to Jeff for reading the Poptropica Help Blog! Thanks for the Facebook mention! :D

How many Poptropicans does it take to change a lightbulb?

If you saw the Creators’ Blog post asking this question, well, we can help with that! Blake made a PHB post not too long ago about the BoxTrolls ad currently on Main Streets (such as Mythology or Reality TV), but if you missed it in the onslaught of posts that have hit our blog this week, click here to catch up on how to “balance the BoxTrolls”! The advertised movie comes to theaters this Friday.

Hey guys! We already know that the Box Trolls Ad has been showing up on some islands, but 2 new ads have popped up too. Unlike a lot of ads, these don’t come with a “quest” or “game”, just a video.

First up is Disney Infinity, which now includes superheroes. You can find it on Reality TV island.

All you have to do is watch a video to earn your prize, which is a “Bring on the Super Heroes” power. When activated, a screen appears with a few Marvel super heroes, but that is pretty much it.

The second ad is for Mr. Peabody and Sherman, coming to Blu-Ray and DVD on October 14. You can find it on Steamworks island.

Once you find it, all you have to do is click it to earn your two prizes, which are a pink Cake Costume and a link to take Penny’s Personality Quiz (which tells you somewhere you should visit).

I mainly wanted to tell you guys about these ads because the pink cake costume would go great with Poptropica’s birthday balloon and costume! Sadly, it wasn’t here in time for the PHB’s party (which you can see the recap for here).

Also, the Creators recently featured some more awesome new Land creations on their Twitter page:

Amazing work! The Creators even said that Big Raptor’s creation was their favorite yet. It’s kind of hard to see, but the interior design definitely is detailed. ;)

Ready for some spooky action? Halloween is coming at the end of this month, and the new Lockwood & Co. ad on ad streets seems to be in the right spirit (I found it beside the mill in Survival Ep. 5).

Inside the building, once you find the three ghosts (in the rattling teapot to the right, the cracked mirror on the left, and rocking horse at the top) – you’ll win the Skull in a Jar follower, which says “I’m a skull in a jar” in a deep voice when you click on it. Creeeeeepy. :P

By the way, you can also play a little interactive game for Lockwood & Co via this Poptropica page.

(UPDATE: The Creators’ Blog mentioned this little thing in their post about Lockwood – “Not a flamin’ skull, unfortunately, but you can’t have everything.” Could they, perhaps, be talking about the greatest Poptropica band of the days of yore? Hmm. ;) We were pretty cool, but our glory days are over.)

Poptropica has been on a roll recently on Twitter, and over the past day they’ve released even more awesome behind-the-scenes (BTS) images! For even more BTS pics, see the PHB posts below.

Among the noteworthy are some early concept art for Arabian Nights characters, the frames of an animated sleeping dog for an “upcoming (and spooky)” ad (though not the Lockwood one above), and costumes for three monkeys and Jorge & Oliver from the official Poptropica comic strip.

Props to you, Land owners

Lastly, Poptropica finally rolled out the anticipated furniture feature to Land earlier this week, and they’re calling it Props. Great for making your Land a little more homey! You can read more about it in our Poptropica Land guide, but we hope to update you guys with more specifics soon, so stay tuned. :)

PoptropiCon, Ep. 2: description & poster

Thanks to Sneaky Panda for the tip that the description for the second episode of PoptropiCon (titled “Spoiler Alert”) is now up on the official Tour page! Here’s what it says:

New ads: Star Wars Rebels & Skylanders Trap Team

Ads have been getting a lot of hype recently – what with banners, cards taking you to the ads, carousel slots, and mentions on the Creator’s Blog – and the funny thing is that the actual ads themselves are just billboard ads. The two newest are for the Star Wars Rebels and the Skylanders Trap Team.

Upon logging in, you’ll obtain two cards that will take you to each ad. After watching the trailer videos for both campaigns, you’ll collect a Snap Shot Costume from the Skylanders ad, and a Stormtrooper Helmet from the Star Wars ad.

My favorite out of the two is the Stormtrooper helmet, as it has a bobblehead effect – and while the teal dragon costume does as well, I think the helmet looks cooler. :D

Thinknoodles mention

I recently sent in some fan art to Thinknoodles (a popular YouTube gamer who plays Poptropica), and he gave me his “Golden Noodle Award” on his Minecraft Survival series! :D The idea of this is that in each episode, someone who sent in an awesome idea or cool fan art gets a sign on Thinknoodles’s tree with their name on it. Watch the video below and skip to 0:52 to see my mention. :)

As for the artwork, it’s a drawing of his Poptropican, Speedy Catfish (his username is thinknoodles), and I put a lot of effort into this one. I also have a new drawing software, which I think will improve the quality of my art, and thus the quality of your Poptropica Portraits. ;)

Poptropica Land: public preview

The Creators recently announced that a two week long public preview for Poptropica Land will be commencing October 16th (in 6 days!), and will end October 30th. There’s even a countdown to the big day on the front page!

During this period, everyone, including non-members, will be able to access Land. This is a big opportunity for non-members to send in their creations to the Creators. They’ll be posting their favorites to the blog as mentioned in the post. :D

Upcoming big launches

Poptropica recently tweeted a “behind the scenes” email from Poptropica HQ about some upcoming big launches. (Oh look, they use Gmail! :P ) As mentioned above, next Thurs (Oct 16) they plan to release public access to Land for a Poptropica-sponsored contest. On the same day, we’ll be getting a “New Start World” and some “polish and bug fixes” to Land as well! We’ll have to wait to see what’s new.

The Thursday after that (Oct 23), the first episode of Arabian Nights (How Bazaar) will be released to all! And finally, coming soon to Poptropica’s mobile app is Ep. 1 of PoptropiCon (no date mentioned).

Poptropica Pioneers

I’ve recently started a new video series on my Youtube Channel similar to Thinknoodles’ Road to Captain Thinknoodles series, entitled Poptropica Pioneers. The idea is that a few days after I release my video walkthrough for the newest release, I upload a recording of me trying to figure out the island/episode for the first time.

From the feedback I’ve been getting, people are really seeming to enjoy it, so check out the first episode below and tell me what you think. :D Of course you’ll be able to view new releases of walkthroughs and Poptropica Pioneers on my channel, so go subscribe to that if you’d like. :P

Free Halloween costumes

If you remember a few weeks back during Poptropica’s 7th birthday, a couple of ghastly costumes popped up in the Store and then strangely disappeared. They have now returned for Halloween spirit – and if you don’t remember, they are the Egyptian Mummy and the Scarecrow from the Haunted House quest, now made into gold card items. You can get them for free in the Store!

In addition, you can get some more free Halloween-themed costume cards from the bottom half of the Store page! These aren’t new, but they’ve never been free before today either.

Girls can get the Furry Monster 1, 2, and 3, Werewolf Girl, Bride of Frankenstein, Vampire Girl 1, and Little Demon; boys can get the Furry Monster 1, 2, and 3, Werewolf Boy, Frankenstein, and Little Demon – all for the great price of 0 credits! >:D

Monster Carnival Island: duck monster process & a doodle

Poptropica has posted yet another behind-the-scenes video, this time showing the process of animating the monster in the pool of the duck game on Monster Carnival Island! Very cool. :)

Going slightly off-topica, Poptropica also tweeted a doodle made by a Poptropica illustrator (signed “MRCER”) during a lunch break. Click here to see the beauty: it’s a sheep rocking out on a guitar!

Lalaloopsy Girls ad

In addition to the new ads giving out bobblehead headwear, girls who log in may also receive a pink card that says “Like my cute outfit?” If you click on the only button (“Get blue braids!”), it should take you to the Lalaloopsy Girls ad. (Unless you don’t live in the US, like me, in which case you’ll be brought to an ad-less Main Street. Anyway, I couldn’t access the ad, but Silly Pelican over at Poptropica With Scary Plug (PWSP) could – so SP, thanks for your insights!)

If you’re able to get over all the pink in the atmosphere and step inside, you’ll find some character bios for the Lalaloopsy girls, a music video with the dolls, a jar that “glitters” your screen when you click it, a Dance Party power, and two dummies with cute outfits you can Costumize. Enjoy! ^-^

Cute! Sadly, there haven’t been any behind the scenes images for any islands recently. However, they did post these random sketches (made by bored Creators in their downtime):

Also, the Creators’ “Inside Poptropica” YouTube playlist has been updated with another video, in which a “QA tester” has found a bug in the most recent unreleased update to SUIs – not being able to swim in the water on Mythology Island.

Meanwhile with the Land Public Preview Challenge, the Creators have already tweeted a couple of their favorite Dream Homes so far (click to enlarge).

For help with Land, check out the PHB’s Poptropica Labs (Land) Guide, which was recently updated to reflect some new changes: now including a detailed chart of what you unlock at each level (as well as how much Poptanium is needed per level, which is no longer the standard 15 – it now varies)!

They’re also seeking advice for the future of the Land project over on Twitter, and so far suggestions have included changing the health effects of water in different biomes, plus the ability to name your own Land and have it seen by people on the Map. Both sound pretty neat! :D
